Indoor Plants: Some of Our Favorites

Indoor plants are always a good option as a gift, an expression of sympathy, or simply to enjoy for yourself! Over the years you may have acquired an indoor plant from someone at the office or as a sympathy gift when a loved one passed. You got home and then wondered what in the world you were going to do with it! Many of us seem to have a love-hate relationship with plants. We either love them or we hate them. Many folks stay away from having indoor plants because they feel that they don’t have the “green thumb” to care for them. We hope a few of these tips and tricks will give you the confidence to go ahead and get that cute potted ivy for your bathroom, the fiddle leaf fig for your bedroom or a succulent garden for your office!
There are many options to choose from when deciding what indoor plant you would like to invest in! You can go for fun, whimsical and airy or a more compact, modern, and simple approach. No matter the style of home or office you have, there are plenty of green, indoor plants to choose from!

Ivy

We’ll start with the ivy. Our plant of the month is a Pothos Ivy! Be sure and read all about it in our Plant of the Month section! We carry these beauties year round and they are going to be one of the most simple options for a lovely house or office plant. Pothos ivys only need to be watered every 1-2 weeks. They thrive without sunlight and are very low maintenance. Pothos Ivys can live up to 10 and even 20 years! If you have been hesitant to try out indoor plants, this is the best option for a beginner!

Bird’s Nest Fern

Another wonderful option is a Bird’s Nest Fern. This beautiful and unique plant offers bright green foliage and an easy to care for presence in your home. Bird’s Nest Ferns love indirect sunlight and lots of humidity. Because of this, they make wonderful bathroom plants! You might have a lovely garden tub or counter space in your bathroom that could use some new life. A Bird’s Nest Fern is a perfect option for you! Remembering to water them is easier when you’re in that space daily, but the humidity from the shower and occasional bath will keep it thriving in between watering. Avoid watering the center of the plant, that encourages mold growth. These ferns are low profile and so unique. Find a cute ceramic pot and watch any space in your home come to life!

Spathiphyllum

A staple green plant for indoors is a Spathiphyllum, or as we call them, “Peace Lily”. These are very typical sympathy plants. Sending a peace lily to a family who has lost a loved one is a sign of care, compassion, and love in their time of need. These plants are  easy to maintain, so sending them as a gift is a nice gesture without a lot of work attached. Peace Lily’s can represent tranquility and serenity. Peace Lilies are fans of indirect light, but can stay alive in low to no natural light, like an office. The tall green foliage and occasional white blooms will fill any space with life and color!

There are many more options to choose from, but these are a few low maintenance and lovely plants to choose from. Whether you are gifting a plant, picking one out for yourself or your just wanting to give something new a try, let us know how we can help you! We carry all of these options year round and would love to help you out!
