Ranunculus: August Flower of the Month

Talk about an attention grabber! Ranunculus are it! They are the flower that make people ooohh & ahhh. When they are in a design, we get asked what they are frequently! We don’t blame people for loving them wither, they are one of our favorites! They are whimsy and dainty, but still make a big statement. We love them in wedding work as well as every day designs (we love to use them in our specialty bouquets & arrangements!)

So, let’s learn a little about ranunculus:

  • Ranunculus have a distinct round shape packed with layered, tissue thin petals and come in a wide array of colors and varieties! 600 species to be precise!

  • However, some varieties are considered endangered in the wild due to habitat destruction and the influence of invasive species.

  • Did we mention the layers of petals that will reveal themselves as the flower blooms? Most varieties contain over 100 petals!

  • Most varieties have no fragrance making them a great option for those sensitive to floral scents!

  • They have a long vase life of 8- 14 days (if cared for correctly, of course!) Their heads are heavy though, so make sure they have good support!

  • They are toxic to humans and pets if eaten, so be aware!

Ranunculus have a distinct round shape packed with layered, tissue thin petals and come in a wide array of colors and varieties! They definitely give off spring/summer vibes, but are conveniently available year-round. Ranunculus symbolize admiration & love (as if we didn’t love to use them for wedding anyways!) They contain no scent, so if you are sensisitive to floral fragrances - this is a great flower for you!
